Pancakes, Neighbors & Community: The Mountain House Fire Department Pancake Breakfast

One of the things I love most about living in Mountain House, California, is all the community events we have throughout the year. On Saturday, October 17, 2026, the Mountain House Fire Department hosted its annual Pancake Breakfast, and my son and I went to check it out like we do every year. Let me tell you, there was a whole lot more going on than just pancakes!
More Than Just Breakfast
When people think about moving to Mountain House, they usually have a lot of questions. What are the homes like? What's the cost of living? What is it actually like to live here?
Today, I'm stepping away from the listings to show you something a little different. Events like this give us all a reason to slow down and spend time together. Between work, school, and everything else life throws at us, it's nice to get out of the house, enjoy a meal, and connect with the people around us. And what better way to bring people together than pancakes?
The Mountain House Fire Department hosts this breakfast every year, making it a familiar event on the local calendar. It's also a great chance to recognize the firefighters who serve our community and the people who help make local events possible.
So Much More Than Pancakes
Of course, the firefighters were busy at the griddle flipping pancakes, served up with coffee, orange juice, and plenty of butter and syrup. The tables even had fire prevention word searches, which kept kids and grown-ups entertained between bites.
But breakfast was just the beginning! Here are a few of our favorite moments:
- The Jaws of Life: My son got a hands-on lesson with the Jaws of Life, and he actually got them to work! He was so proud.
- Inside the ambulance: A crew member gave us a tour of the ambulance and showed us everything tucked inside the walls. My son had a million questions, and he patiently answered every single one.
- Fun fact: My son also learned that fire trucks are made mostly of aluminum. Now he tells everyone!
- Sparky the Fire Dog: The fire department's mascot, Sparky, was a total celebrity, posing for photos with what felt like the whole town.
- Therapy dogs: We met the therapy dogs who support our firefighters. We learned they help firefighters feel more comfortable and decompress, especially after stressful calls.
- The firefighter challenge: Kids suited up like firefighters, crawled through an obstacle, then grabbed a water hose to put out the "fire." It was so cute to watch!
- Games and jumpy houses: Cornhole and jumpy houses kept everyone busy, kids and adults alike.
- The raffle: There was a huge raffle with tons of prizes, and lots of people went home winners.
- The flag: One of the most memorable sights was the American flag raised high on the 100-plus-foot ladder of one of the biggest fire trucks.
- School art contest: Local schools competed in a fire safety art contest for a special fire hydrant prize, a fun way to get students involved.
Meeting Our Neighbors
I ran into Mayor Andy Su, who has lived in Mountain House for 22 years. When I asked what he loves most about the community, his answer was simple: the people. He said the wonderful people here feel like family to him.
I also met Happy Grewal, a resident since 2013, who loves spending weekends with his kids at their football and basketball games. He'd love to see a downtown Mountain House someday, and I think a lot of us would agree!
We also stopped by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) booth, where Lisa Boulais explained how this volunteer team backs up our fire department during major emergencies, helping with first aid, search and rescue, evacuations, and keeping firefighters hydrated and fed.
Interested in getting involved? CERT training teaches residents how to help themselves, their neighbors, and the community during an emergency, and graduates can volunteer with the Mountain House Fire CERT team.

Getting to Know Mountain House Beyond the Listings
As a Realtor, I spend a lot of time helping buyers with budgets, bedrooms, bathrooms, and neighborhoods. But there's another question I always encourage people to ask: What do you want your life to look like after you move?
Maybe you're relocating for work, looking for more space, or simply ready for a change. Whatever your reason, finding a home is about more than the property itself. It's about finding a place that fits your needs, your priorities, and the lifestyle you want.
If you’re considering buying a home in Mountain House, I always recommend visiting. Drive through the neighborhoods, check out a community event, and experience the area for yourself. Events like this pancake breakfast are a great way to start. Check out the City of Mountain House events calendar to see what’s coming up.
